Final Program Demonstration

Introduction
Our program is centered around an event that we found transformational, returning to school, and taking on-line courses. This seemed to align naturally with the Transformational Learning (TML) as it all begins with a disorienting dilemma. As we learned more about the stages of TML the program developed naturally into the product you see here. Our program reviewers were positive and offered constructive suggestions that were easily implemented. This program can be utilized in its entirety or just sections as the individual needs may dictate. While this program is not currently offered, it is one that would be utilized if it were available and students knew they could get support prior to their first class.

We created a brochure that highlights the Transition to Graduate School program we designed for adult learners attending graduate school.

Group 2: I really like that you created a brochure! That was unique, which is refreshing. Many of us in other groups created PowerPoints/Prezi's so I like that your group did something different.
ReplyDeleteI also like that you had 3 videos to watch and listen and that we did not have to do more reading. One thing that I would consider doing differently is shortening Ray's video. While it contained great information, the length is likely discouraging to potential viewers. Watching the videos that are 2,3,4 minutes long feels much more manageable than seeing a video is going to be 15 minutes to watch. Please know that I feel comfortable sharing this feedback because I myself created a 15 minute video! It was crazy. I was just talking and sharing and when I got done, it was much longer than I was anticipating. Eek! I got feedback from my group and in the end we decided to not have me re-record it and to just use it, but in hindsight I probably should have. I know that the length of mine will definitely deter people from wanting to watch it, which means in the end- it's not going to be helpful/useful to future learners and that was my whole purpose behind it. Just my opinion :)
Well done!
Allison
I agree with you. It s better to have a video with less than 5 minutes.

Allison,
ReplyDeleteYou are right. My recording could have been shorter. I just wanted to be sure to include all the information the professor wanted. The last thing our group would want to do is discourage young graduates to re-enroll in graduate school. Also we want to give graduates students a chance to learn about our 8 week program. This made me really make sure I include all the details and resources from start to finish. Hopefully this will encourage students to know that the resources are out there to help them further the education.
Ray,
DeleteI am glad that you covered quite a lot of the details, which is good! But it is still recommended to keep the length of the video within 5 minutes. :)

The brochure was very creative and I can see that it would be very helpful to the student. It really stands out and is much more inviting than just a document or paper. I thought the video was a great idea.It gave a personal touch and made the potential graduate student feel that you were talking to her. I would slow it down a little though. I felt as if you were trying to get a lot of information in in a short amount of time. Maybe less information would be better.
ReplyDeleteLOL, Jessica was trying to be efficient and shared quite a lot of tips in 1:40 minutes!
DeleteDarbi, Ray, Lecia, Jessica, and Keersten,
ReplyDeleteYou created a beautiful brochure! I also like what you shared with us in your videos! Even though the videos are either too long or too quick, I know you did your best and you really put your heart on this task, which is good! I am sure after some practices, you will create excellent videos in the future.
Suggestions:
1. Is it possible to add the scroll bar in your brochure? I am using a small computer and it is so hard for me to read all the information in the brochure. I tried to drag the bar and read the information at the bottom of the brochure, but I could not find the scroll bar.
2. In brochure, to make the program look like a real program, you can position yourself either as instructors or administrators instead of as students who are trying to complete the assignments.
3. At the left side of your first page of the brochure, introduce the purpose of your program and what will be covered in the program, move Start Today to the right side of the brochure, since learners need to know what the program is about before they plan to register.
4. Make the length of your videos within 5 minutes. Try to make the speed of your talk not too slow or too quick.

I enjoyed watching the progress of your project. I think it's great that you show the project is done by graduate students. It's relatable to other students. I think the content of your program is much needed. If we were to continue, I think listing the length of each session would be helpful for students planning to attend. Also, as stated previously, I think offering students the opportunity to attend the sessions they feel are helpful to their own situation would be a nice option. There are always some areas you feel more information would be helpful, but don't want to feel as if you have to attend all. If there is an option to attend all or none, most may choose none due to time constraints. All in all, your group did a great job! I think this program would be very helpful for many graduate programs.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your program design as the brochure was an interesting idea and great change of pace. The brochure was an inviting idea. That could be easily used to introduce many different programs. I thought that the videos were a clever idea to discuss and touch on many different important topics. Your program design really has grown and progressed throughout the course of this assignment. I felt that this was informative and interesting.
ReplyDeleteI liked the videos your group provided for the Final Project. They are informative and they make it much easier to follow. Ray's was a little long, but he covered a great deal of material. Overall, I think your web page and projects are outstanding. A job well done!
